On August 7th, 2025, Sal Khan, the founder of Khan Academy, made his inaugural visit to Ohio. The state is no stranger to learning on the platform—across the region, districts are partnered with Khan Academy to close skill gaps, become AI-literate, and help students prepare for college and careers. Districts like Tipp City Schools launched one of Ohio’s first AI-powered learning labs, making it a foundational site in the newly established Ohio AI Education Network.

Each quarter, we sit down with Dr. Kristen DiCerbo, Khan Academy’s Chief Learning Officer, to reflect on what she’s seeing in the field, in the research, and in the data. This time, with SAT prep top of mind for many districts, we asked her to share how she’s thinking about assessment, motivation, and meaningful practice.

For Holly Thomas, a sixth grade English Language Arts teacher at Tipp City Schools, writing instruction has always been deeply personal—and often, painstaking. But this year, with the help of Khan Academy Writing Coach powered by Khanmigo, she saw something she’d never seen before: 117 students, each submitting a completed argumentative essay. Tipp City Schools is a founding site in the Ohio AI Education Network—a statewide initiative bringing cutting-edge AI tools to K–12 and higher ed. In Tipp City, Ohio, eighth-grade math teacher Jena Galloway is using Khan Academy Districts to close learning gaps and personalize instruction for students of all abilities. When Tricia Cummings, Future Ready Instructional Coach at Jim Thorpe Fundamental Elementary School in Santa Ana Unified School District in California, started exploring personalized learning options, she knew the right solution had to do more than fill gaps. It had to meet every student where they were, from gifted learners to English language newcomers. In her third year as a coach, and 26th year in the district, she helped bring Khan Academy’s Learning Paths to her school, using MAP Growth data to drive instruction.

This study kit is designed to help superintendents, district administrators, andbuilding-level leaders explore how generative AI can support students, empowerteachers, and drive innovation across schools. Grounded in Sal Khan's book BraveNew Words, the kit supports thoughtful, mission-driven conversations about thefuture of AI in education.
